Why PDF pages appear sideways
Phone scans, mixed paper orientation, and incorrect scanner settings can create pages that are sideways or upside down. Some PDF readers also apply a temporary viewing rotation that is not saved into the document, so the page looks wrong again when another person opens it.
Identify every affected page
Scroll through the entire PDF before editing. Note whether each page needs a clockwise or counterclockwise turn. A page that is upside down requires two 90-degree rotations. Pay special attention to landscape tables because they may be intentionally wider than the rest of the document.
How to rotate PDF pages
- Open the Rotate PDF tool.
- Upload the PDF and review its page thumbnails.
- Select each page with incorrect orientation.
- Rotate in 90-degree steps until the page is upright.
- Process and download the corrected file.
Check that the rotation was saved
Open the downloaded PDF in a separate reader rather than relying only on the processing preview. Check it on a phone when the recipient is likely to use a mobile device. Confirm that text, form fields, links, and signatures still appear in their expected positions.
Keep mixed layouts intentional
- Leave landscape charts horizontal when that improves readability.
- Do not rotate every page because only one scan is wrong.
- Use a new filename for the corrected version.
- Keep the original until the final file is approved.
