Prepare the paper and camera
Place the document on a flat, contrasting surface and smooth any folds. Use bright, even lighting without shadows or glare. Clean the camera lens and hold the device directly above the page so text lines remain straight and the page does not look stretched.
Capture every page clearly
Fill most of the frame with the document while leaving a small border for cropping. Tap to focus on the text and keep the camera steady. Review each image immediately, especially pages containing small print, signatures, stamps, or identification details.
How to create a scanned PDF
- Open the Scan PDF tool or Camera to PDF.
- Capture or select the page images.
- Crop unwanted background around each page.
- Rotate pages and arrange them in reading order.
- Create the PDF, download it, and inspect the result.
Balance quality and file size
Scans need enough resolution for text to remain readable, but full-resolution camera photos can produce a very large PDF. Use a moderate quality setting for normal documents and higher quality for fine diagrams or small print. Compress the finished PDF only after checking that important details remain clear.
Final scan checklist
- No missing, duplicated, or upside-down pages.
- All text is readable at normal zoom.
- Page edges are visible and not cropped into content.
- Shadows, fingers, and background objects are removed.
- The filename clearly identifies the scanned document.
